Makeup Revolution Essential Mattes Palette Review

Makeup Revolution is a brand that has been gaining a lot of popularity over the past year or so. They seem to have so many great products that come at very inexpensive prices, something that I’m sure has probably drawn me and a ton of other bloggers to purchase their makeup. Find out what I think about my latest Makeup Revolution purchase below.

The Essential Mattes Palette by Makeup Revolution is a 12 shadow palette that contains both light, dark, warm and cool toned shadows. A variety of looks can be created with the colours – from a light neutral eye to an intense smoky, it’s very versatile. Described as a pure sell-out by the brand, the palette is a perfect mix of neutral shades that give high-colour payoff when applied. Having brought only one other palette from the brand, I was keen to try this selection of shadows.

Matte shadows have always been my go to. A lot of people seem to like shimmery looking lids, I however find that these looks don’t suit me too well and prefer the subtle look of mattes, especially for daytime. Matte shadow palettes can be quite difficult to find, a good one is definitely a rare discovery – especially at the drugstore. When I came across this matte palette at the Makeup Revolution stand, I just had to pick it up. Having used this for quite some time now I’ve realised that the palette has mostly good qualities but also one irritating trait. The shadows are super intense and pigmented which is awesome, but the fall out of each shadow is pretty dramatic. When creating a smoky eye, you will find that the darker shadows with fall down below your eye. This doesn’t happen so much with the lighter shades, but tapping off any excess first is a great idea. I get use out of many of the colours but I feel like the blue and the yellow-ish highlighter shades don’t mesh with the other colours very well. The texture of the shades is buttery smooth and they blend in really easily – something that is usually quite hard to do with matte shadows. I tend to use two of the shades on a daily basis (the seventh and eighth shade), to create a natural but defined look. I use the 7th shade on the lid and 8th in the crease and outer corner. A natural look is easily achievable with this palette. This has definitely taken the place of the Iconic 3 as my favourite palette of theirs.

You can currently purchase the Essential Mattes Palette for £4.00 at Superdrug. Have you tried this Makeup Revolution palette yet? Please leave comments below.

Three Beauty Products I Wouldn’t Repurchase

From time to time all of us pick up products that end up being quite disappointing and of poor quality. Beauty bloggers probably experience this a lot more than others, as testing out products for our blog is what we do, and coming across something that didn’t quite fulfil expectations is bound to happen at some point. Read about my experience with three particularly disappointing products below.

Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Berry – £6.49 from Boots

I picked up this cream blush as I wanted to create a subtle flushed look on my cheeks. I thought this would do the job perfectly but unfortunately it didn’t. The very pigmented colour is hard to use, you need an extremely light hand to get a subtle look. Once you manage to get the right amount of colour on your cheeks you realise that you still look like a clown as there is so much glitter contained within the formula. The silver glitter particles are what I really dislike about this product. Why is there glitter in a blush product? It’s so unnecessary. It’s also very thick and quite difficult to blend without ruining your base makeup – it definitely does not blend seamlessly as Maybelline claim. I personally think that it’s not even worth the £6.49.

Vichy Dermablend Corrective Cream Stick in Nude – £12.75 from Escentual

I have previously talked about this product on my blog, and if you’re a regular reader you may remember my review on the corrective cream stick (which you can read here). I wasn’t overly impressed with this product when I first got it, which was a shame as I expected it to be brilliant. When I picked this up I had previously tried the foundation from the same range – which was amazing and I thought this would be too. Although the coverage and shade were great, the lasting power of the formula really sucked. The 14hr statement Vichy make about this product is completely false. Once applied it lasted for around 2 hours max before it started sliding around my face and sinking into the skin. I finished the stick but I definitely will not be repurchasing this.

Rimmel London Wonder’Full Mascara in Black – £7.99 from Boots

I wasn’t too disappointed with this mascara, but it was nowhere near the best I’ve ever tried from the drugstore. The formula was ok whilst it lasted, but just like with many other mascaras, unless they’re totally amazing I will not repurchase them. I think most people feel this way about mascara. I never usually stick to or get attached to one in particular, I like to experiment. This formula gives a natural look to the lashes which isn’t really a look I opt for as I’ve got quite short and straight lashes. It doesn’t do much for me personally but could be a great product for someone who already has pretty long and curly lashes. My favourite mascara at the moment is Maybelline’s Lash Sensational, what yours?
