As a long time wearer of MAC cosmetics, I look forward to their amazing collaborations with designers and celebs every year. A few have been announced by the brand recently (including one with Ellie Goulding) but my favourite of the moment has to be their dreamy and colourful collection with Italian fashion designer, Giambattista Valli (who is celebrating 10 years of his fashion house this year).
Known for his gorgeous floral-inspired dresses, Valli decided that his line for MAC should perfectly represent the Giambattista Valli brand and reflect his design aesthetic. With this in mind he returned to his usual inspirations, and drew from past creations to influence every aspect of the lipsticks. From the texture and colours to the type of packaging and advertising, everything about the line screams Valli.
This lip focused line consists of 5 feminine matte lip shades, ranging from a frosty, candy pink to a deep, vampy berry. The diverse range is universally flattering and offers something for everyone. Shades include Margarita (a bright coral), Bianca B (a light pink), Charlotte (a classic cherry red), Tats (a vivid fuchsia) and Eugenie (a dark mauve). All intense and very pigmented colours designed for the confident Valli girl. The collection also offers a crystal hued, moisturising, high-shine gloss to wear alone or over the vibrant lip colours, should you want a lustrous, glazed finish.
The range is distinctly different from those we’ve seen from MAC before. Lipsticks are housed in coloured tubes (showing the exact shades of the bullets within), a first for MAC who generally stick to their iconic black and silver outer packaging. Valli’s thinking behind this concept was that it would be easier for women to find the correct lipstick without having to take lids off. A genius idea, if like me you tend to carry around quite a few lipsticks.
When asked about the collaboration with MAC, Valli said…
“For a creative person, collaborating can be frustrating because you feel that you’re limited or stuck within someone else’s ideas, but with MAC it was 100 percent freedom and 100 percent support just to make my idea become a reality, to pull out my flowers and my sense and my emotion and put it into the colour” – Giambattista Valli
Being addicted to lipstick, I can’t wait to get my hands on this range for Summer. It’s an amazing lip wardrobe for the season and will be a great addition to any lipstick enthusiast’s collection. The full collection will be released on the 9th July. Will you be heading to MAC to buy any of the lip products?
