My Current Skincare Routine

Skincare is one of the most important steps in my daily routine. Makeup feels and looks better when your skin is looking the best it can. My routine is often changing as I am always trying out new products and testing what products work best for my skin. Continue reading to find out what products and techniques I’m currently using and like at the moment.

Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser – This is one of my favourite skincare products and has been since I first used it. I have very dry skin and I find that many cleansers often make it drier and can cause flaky patches. This thick, creamy cleanser moisturises as it removes all the makeup, dirt and oil from my face which is exactly what I need from a cleanser. If you have dry skin I would definitely recommend you try it.

Eucerin Dermo Purifyer Cleanser* – This cleanser is aimed towards oily and blemish prone skin. I use this as my second cleanser to give my skin a deeper clean. It helps to heal blemishes and keeps the skin clear. It doesn’t dry out my skin or cause any sensitivity issues which you might expect from this type of cleanser. The gel like consistency is perfect for an oily complexion and isn’t too harsh for drier skin either.

Eucerin Dermo Purifyer Toner – The Eucerin Toner is very refreshing and removes all traces of makeup left after cleansing. This toner is a little harsher than the cleanser and can cause dryness as it contains alcohol. I don’t like to use this all of the time and I only use it on certain areas of my face because when used consistently it irritates my sensitive skin. In the future I will probably avoid this toner.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+ – I have now been using the Effaclar Duo+ for about a month and have realised this is one of my preferred products to use for breakouts. I only use this cream on blemishes rather than using it over my whole face, as this seems to work better for me. This cream helps to treat blemishes and unclog any blocked pores on your face. I will post a full review of this product in a couple of weeks.

E45 Intense Recovery Lotion – As I have very dry skin I need a lotion that can lock in moisture and keep my skin hydrated. The E45 Recovery Lotion does this extremely well. It gently moisturises and soothes my skin whilst helping to smooth out the dryer areas of my face. The lotion absorbs instantly and doesn’t leave behind any residue or feel too thick or sticky on the skin.

Avene Gentle Purifying Scrub – Avene is a brand that is dedicated to the care of sensitive skin and also a brand that I love. The small beads in this scrub remove surface dirt and unclog pores revealing soft, smooth and healthy skin. Skin looks purified and glows. I like to use this product twice a week but it could be used everyday as it’s so gentle. Give this product a try if you have sensitive skin.

Simple Deep Cleansing Face Mask – This face mask feels like your putting a thick cream on your face which then hardens a little, but doesn’t feel tight which is how most face masks containing clay tend to feel. You leave the mask on for 3-5 minutes and then wash off. It’s definitely more of a gentle face mask which is what I prefer, but still gives your skin a deep clean. Your skin feels fresher and cleaner after using this.

Avene Eau Thermale Spring Water – The Avene water is a great product for soothing and hydrating the skin throughout the day. I use it in the mornings to wake me up and freshen my face as well as in the day to keep my makeup looking good. This water spray can also be used to sooth sunburn, calm redness, set makeup and can even been used on conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

My Top 5 Summer Makeup Tips

1. Lighten Your Base – Heavy face makeup doesn’t look great in the Summer. Swap your foundation for a tinted moisturiser or bb cream. These sheer formulas are less likely to turn cakey in the heat and will leave you with a radiant dewy glow. I like to make my own tinted moisturiser by mixing my foundation with my moisturiser. This helps to even out my complexion, and makes me look fresher and more awake without feeling heavy in the heat. To keep makeup looking good, I use a water spray over my face throughout the day. I’m liking the Avene Eau Thermale Spring Water Spray at the moment, which can also be used for setting makeup.

2. Stick To Bright Or Nude Lip Colours – Rich, deep colours are great for Autumn/Winter makeup looks but you don’t want to wear them in the Summer. Vibrant colours on your lips will instantly brighten your face and make teeth look whiter while nude shades will keep you looking natural and enhance your lip colour. Stay away from lipsticks as they will feel too heavy and instead opt for a coloured balm or lip stain. I love the Rose Tinted Vaseline and the Baby Lips Balms and think they are great options to go for in the Summer. They both give lips a subtle hint of colour that is perfect for the season.

3. Keep Eyes Clean & Fresh – Stick to only waterproof or clear mascara on beach days while maybe adjusting your look to include liner in the evenings. I don’t particularly like wearing eyeshadow in the heat, but shades you can wear include shimmery coppers, golds, peaches and pinks. These colours will enhance your complexion and offset a summery bronzed skin tone. You definitely shouldn’t wear any dark colours on your eyes, as these will smudge in the heat and end up looking messy. Eye makeup should be simple and look clean.

4. Use A Bronzer – Everyone looks better when they use a bronzer. It adds some warmth to the skin and looks great when used properly. Use bronzer on the high points of the face where the sun would normally catch you. The cheekbones, forehead, nose and chin should be bronzed slightly to give the look of a natural tan on the face. Do not bronze the whole face as this looks unrealistic and unnatural which is not a look you want. I am currently using The No7 Perfectly Bronzed Bronzing Pearls which add the perfect amount of bronzer and shimmer to my face.

5. Make Time For Primer – I don’t always tend to wear primer as my makeup usually seems to stay put without it, but during the Summer months I make sure that I always use it, as it helps a lot in making sure your face stays the way you want it to. Primer provides a smooth base for your makeup, hides pores, prevents shine and will hold your makeup in place all day. Although this means another layer on your face, it’s very light and you barley notice that it’s there. I think a primer is an essential for your Summer beauty routine.

L’Oreal L’Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick Review

I recently picked up 3 of the NEW L’Oreal L’Extraordinaire Liquid Lipsticks which seem to be a high-street version of the YSL Glossy Stains. These glosses both cater to the high shine lip trend, that is proving to be very popular this Spring/Summer. Available in 9 shades, ranging from subtle to statement colours, this combination product provides the colour intensity of a lipstick, the shine of a gloss and the softness of a balm.

The product fuses luxurious oils with colour pigments to create a gloss packed full of rich colour, which is also light and moisturising on the lips, not sticky like most lipglosses are. The texture of the gloss is very smooth and creamy which makes them extremely easy to wear. The product has a gorgeous sweet scent which I personally love, it smells very fresh rather than synthetic. The liquid lipsticks come in a beautiful gold coloured tube with the colour of the product displayed on the side and bottom of the package. The packaging isn’t as luxe as some of the higher end makeup brands, but looks pretty good for the price.

I’m not a huge fan of lipglosses but I find these to be a really great addition to my lip collection. I have been wearing them quite a lot lately and think that these are an excellent alternative to lipstick. The punchy statement colours are superb for Summer and the range of nude colours are great for when you want a natural look.

Molto Mauve//Fuchsia Drama//Rose Symphony

500 Molto Mauve – is a dusty pink colour with brown undertones and sparkles. It’s a very sophisticated and pretty nude shade that I like to wear a lot. It’s a little sheerer than some of the other colours in the range, but still looks great on.

401 Fuchsia Drama – is a bright cool-toned pink with a blue sheen. It’s one of those shades that make your teeth look extremely white, which is always a good thing.

201 Rose Symphony – is a bright coloured pink with orange undertones that has a slight sparkle. It’s close to a watermelon colour. This shade is awesome for Spring.

Available now from £8.99, or 2 for £15.00 at Boots, these are definitely worth checking out this Spring if you haven’t tried them yet.
