Just like most of you, I have a passion for beauty products and really enjoy trying out new things but I also love the idea of creating my own homemade beauty products, made with natural ingredients. They are so cheap to make and often work better, I believe, than store brought products which contain harsh chemicals that could irritate my extremely sensitive skin.
Its’ hard for me to find products that don’t aggravate my skin so I usually go for products that contain all natural ingredients and have less chemicals in them. This got me thinking, why don’t I try to make my own beauty products and see how they compare to these natural store brought products.
This sugar and honey scrub is very gentle on your skin. It exfoliates and moisturises the skin without drying it out which is what most facial scrubs do. This means that you can use it as often as you wish without worrying about skin irritation or dryness. The sugar exfoliates the skin deep down and cleans the pores. It also improves skin texture by removing dead skin cells and evens out the skin tone. The honey locks water into the skin to keep the skin hydrated and is antibacterial which reduces breakouts. They really work well together to give you smooth, clean and healthy skin.
If you wish you can also add other ingredients such as lemon, which is a natural source of vitamin c. It can be used to lighten scars and even out the skin tone. It also is known to tighten pores and brighten the complexion. Another ingredient you can add is olive oil, which is high in vitamin e and can heal the skin as well as moisturise it.
This scrub can be used for the body and the face. There are many ways to create a honey and sugar scrub but I find this way easy and effective. Below you will find what you will need and the instructions that I used to create this scrub.
What you will need to make this scrub:
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1 tablespoon of organic honey
1 medium-sized jar/bowl with lid
1 tablespoon of olive oil
lemon juice from 1/2 a lemon
Instructions to make:
If you wish to use lemon juice and olive oil then add these into the bowl first and mix well. Next add the sugar and honey into the bowl and whisk until the mixture reaches a medium to thick consistency. Depending on how thick you want your scrub to be, add or reduce the amount of honey. You can also add more sugar if you feel that you need more exfoliation from the scrub.
Apply the scrub to a thoroughly cleansed face, in gentle circular motions. Leave on the face for 5 minutes and rinse with cool water to close pores.
